Crushed oil filter

My car is reaching oil change time, I read a lot about the demise of engines due to crushed oil filters.

Having watched a you tube video of how to change it on a Disco 4 it looks to me to be quite fool proof.

So is the crushed filter a real problem on the Disco 4 or is it a Disco 3 thing?

Any thoughts or better still experiance gratefully received

How would you know if your filter is in incorrectly?

The D3 oil filter has a little spigot that has to fit in a hole in the base of the filter housing, the D4 one just fits over a tube and has no spigot so can be positioned at any angle.

What I'm saying is would you know something was wrong when refitting it? or would you just crush it without knowing?

Some early D4:s has the 2.7 L engine as well but all 3.0 do not have the spigot.
