Well, after looking at what was available in North America for rock sliders/sill guards, a few friends and I decided we could fab some of our own. It's a mandatory piece of kit out here in the desert southwest.
For posterity's sake we have been taking lots of pictures as we go... we have all the equipment to make them, and have all the resources we need here in San Diego for supplies and what not.
I am going to start putting pictures up in the gallery, but for now we have a rough-cut of what's going on the truck, and have been slowly cutting, welding, bending, etc on the slider for the right side.
Maybe it will make some good rover porn for someone!

'porn' you say? .... never heard of it A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.
Good eye on the bikes! You are real close, it's an RSV-R, a Softail Deluxe, then a GSX-R behind that.
The slider is still all rough fit. We decided to angle in the top a little to better fit the line of the truck, as well as get a better seal with the bottom of the door.2005 LR3 HSE - ARB Bumper, Warn XD9000, Custom Rock Sliders and Skid Plates, BBS Faultmate MSV-2 Extreme, Kenwood TMD-700, etc, etc,

You woudn't even recognize the NTC nowadays... its become mixed use with condos and houses surrounding a large shopping and office complex.
They actually did a real good job with it. The NTC was falling apart and it was just depressing to watch. Now it's all new and nice again, and the buildings all kept the same spanish mission style that the Marines had going over on their Recruit Depot which is still next door.2005 LR3 HSE - ARB Bumper, Warn XD9000, Custom Rock Sliders and Skid Plates, BBS Faultmate MSV-2 Extreme, Kenwood TMD-700, etc, etc,

Yeah, I've seen photos...Definitely an improvement. I hope they put the grinder to good use, too, maybe as a parking lot .

Well, working over the weekend (other than Super Bowl) has gotten us a pretty much complete Right hand slider.
The ends have been welded on, everything sanded down nice and smooth, and drain slits in the front and rear halves to allow water and muck to get out.
Now the question becomes what to do with the center support channel. Since it's all enclosed except for some planned weep holes along the channel, I want to make sure it doesn't rust from the inside out. I have been thinking about getting some Waxoyl in there, but not sure how to make that happen.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep it from rusting? The outside is most likely going to be painted with POR-15, so it's just the inner channel I am concerned with.2005 LR3 HSE - ARB Bumper, Warn XD9000, Custom Rock Sliders and Skid Plates, BBS Faultmate MSV-2 Extreme, Kenwood TMD-700, etc, etc,

Do you need the drain holes? They are most likely to let mud in rather than out. Water will find its own way.A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.
The sliders look nice! I would think that powder coating would take care of your "support channel" issue. May be cost prohibitive?? Are you planning on selling these or are you just pulling a one-off? Looks great!2006 D3 Tonga Green
