Cycle rack

Has anyone had or used the genuine D3 cycle rack with a caravan or trailer on the back. Just wondering about it clearing the a frame, jockey wheel and hand brake etc. Any feeeback would be great as thinking of getting one myself.

I am in a similar dilema myself as just looking at getting back into the caravan world and need to take bikes!! Been looking at a Maxxraxx as it looks like it may do the job, think there is some info on here somewhere!!

We use one of these, holds three bikes, need to put them on after hitching up, handle lever clobbers bikes, but no issues turning.... don't reverse on to pitches with them on...but good for normal towing.

Never had a caravan, but thought that the bikes would have just gone inside the caravan for transporting around?

or is that a stupid idea Whistle

Payload of caravans is low, bikes will use up too much. Also bikes are really good at damaging in the insides of caravans!

I thought the same as you Jamie until I owned a caravan myself. Things move around a lot in a caravan when its on the move.

It really wouldn't be good for either the bike or the caravan to have bikes inside loose. You could buy those big bike bags I guess to protect the furnishings in the caravan, but I still think the bike would move around too much unless you could strap it down somehow as well.

Our bikes will be going on the (car!) roof when take the caravan up to Cumbria in a few weeks time Thumbs Up

sorry if silly question but can you get into the boot with the bikes in situ ? Also does the plate just bolt on to the existing tow bar nuts ?

I had a genuine LR cycle rack on my D3. A real waste of time and money. It fouled the Alko hitch so much that had to put the rack on last after hitching up the caravan and take it of first before unhitching when arriving at destination I had some correspondence with LR and ALKO but did not achieve anything. In the end I threw it away.

is how it fixes to the towbar...

Once the rack is in you can't open the boot doors.

If you are careful in how you put the bikes on it clears the BPW hitch when it is the open position, but I found putting the bikes on after is just as easy.

thanks, am thinking about getting the Maxxraxx premier 4 bike one. Should we end up taking a trailer later on then we still have this option. seems like an Ok price too.
