Scotland 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham BlueDiscovery 3
D3 Back to dealer for 1st check up

Hi Folks

Had the D3 back at the dealers on Monday to sort out a few minor niggles.

Its a 2006 TDV6 SE auto (March 2006 registered but a late 2005 car I think)

1.
Tailgate- right hand number plate light popping out

2.
Tailgate not closing well (lots of force needed) resulting in 1.

3.
Slight lag on power delivery when moving off from start (junctions etc)

4.
Horrible scraping sound from front wheel when reversing on full left lock

Everything was fixed to my satisfaction, although I was slightly dissapointed by the lack of knowledge regarding the software enhancement. I thought this would be needed to solve 3, but the service guy said they'd checked and my car had the latest version. However, he said they loaded the latest software anyway (???) !!!

Anyway..I think it did the trick because the car does feel a bit more lively...and I have noticed a slight improvement in economy. May just be my imagination though!

Having read other posts, I consider myself lucky...as my D3 has been superb from day 1 (minor niggles aside) and I have covered just over 6000miles.

One thing I've noticed is that I've hardly had to add any oil to the D3. I was warned by my dealer to keep an eye on the level when I bought it, but so far I've only put in about 1/2 litre....and I'm not even sure if it was really needed (dipstick ain't the best or clearest)

Looking forward to a trip to Scotland in a couple of weeks for some offroading and river crossings!

This is a great car!!!

What oil are you using? The level on mine (after 4000 miles) is just below the 3rd of the 4 blobs on the stick and I need to put a bit in it.

Steve

I used Castrol GTX Magnatex 5W30...seems to be fine. I'm not sure what the official LR recommendation is...other than grade 5W-30.

The oil I was advised to use was Castrol 5w30, although I don't know if thats Magnatec or not.

BTW Mines in today for the 'enhancement' and they gave me an 06 RR Vogue as a courtesy car 8) 8) 8) 8)
Some say the glass is half full. Others that it is half empty. I say 'Are you drinking that?"

Stuart I agree with you about the hard to read dipstick. I use a 5w-30 Castrol product marketed in Australia as 'Castrol Edge'. It is a light colour and therefore hard to read on the dipstick. Also I change my oil at half the 12 000 km recommendation but would be interested in a darker oil as it definately shows up better. See my gallery for a dipstick photo when the oil was just 5000 km old.

Although I would be happier with a darker oil, I imagine that it would be disconcerting for owners that like to see the oil get darker and hence know that it is doing its job.

Steve... I believe that our 'Edge' was previously known as 'Magnatec' and is now a full synthetic. My dealer supplies Mobil 1 which is also a full synthetic oil.

[Edited] The foregoing paragraph makes reference to Magnatec. The reference is incorrect. Castrol Edge was formerly known as Formula R - it is a 5W-30 oil. [End of Edit]

The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)

Castrol Edge is available here too. It used to be called Long Life. It is mainly used in VW/Audi engines.
As far as a understand, Magnatec is the oil to use in the D3 (Jaguar engine).
