D3 Clear / Smoked Rear Light Mod
Not too long had this D3 and the enjoyment of it managing to outweigh the inevitable costs so far!
Also never known a car be able to place an entire puddle on the windscreen so perfectly
I'm not a massive fan of the D4 light mod and fancy something more like the attached image.
I have seen that its possible to remove the orange elements of the headlights to achieve a 'clear' look but for the rear it seems I would need the whole unit to be clear (and Ive not seen an example of this yet..) Anyone had experience of perhaps combining the D4 rear light casing with the guts of D3 lights to achieve this?! Or perhaps something like this is available already
Also any thoughts on the boot mounted brake light? Thanks for thoughts on it.

Not very keen on those, nigethecat but they are a bit closer than what I have seen. I like the standard D3 lights.. as opposed to the newer LED style or found on the D4. Just was playing in photoshop and liked that look of the standard lights in this mono / grey look.

yes, thats more like it. If I can't get it clearer then darker certainly looks nice there, plocker.
Any images of a rear light tear-down / dismantling? Would be nice to see what it all looks like.

No dismantle apart from the 2 screws in the rear lights.
Just some film off Ebay, a heat gun, washing up liquid and patience.

ClassikFan, Thankyou sir, Standard rear lights and applied some tinting film to them, found some on Ebay, there are two types, matt look and gloss which I used, I liked the rear lights of the D3 but I just found them to bright, so i just wanted to dull them a little bit, did not want the really black look, just subtle, also what you might not see is I also did the rear reflectors in the bumper as well, same stuff as the rear lights.
Comparison shot. You can see the difference it makes. It also allows plenty of light through.

I'm starting to think perhaps these are the way to go, at least for the outer casing.. the black cut-outs are seperate from the main outer body I assume..? Would these essentially provide a full clear outer with the interior removed? I would then tint the clear outer to get the mono / grey look.
Would really like to see these lights stripped down a bit to understand what could be combined with the standard stuff.

It's not worth trying to do that!
The amount the LED ones cost, you would want to strip them down for parts and risk breaking things.
