D3 CONVERSION TO D3 - G4 CHALLENGE

HI Guys,

I’ve been toying with the idea of putting some form of land rover logo on my wagon for ages and although the G4 wagons look very nice the thought of re spraying mine or having a full body wrap didn’t appeal to my bank manager. Then I noticed on the www a silver D3 with the G4 logo on it for the G4 challenge heats in Ireland and thought it looked pretty smart.

Further investigation then led me to the livery of the G4 Nevada Challenge which although in white looks pretty good in silver too.

So armed with information, pictures and dimensions I set about finding a vehicle graphics company to copy and produce the livery for me which I have to say wasn’t easy as they were either too busy, couldn’t do it for 6 weeks or wanted an outrageous some of money for it. By chance I was having my haircut and the barber mentioned a company just around the corner that she had used for her own car so off I popped to see them. I went in with all the pictures I could find of the G4 vehicles and explained what I would like. Turns out the guy is a big Land Rover fan having a 110 Defender & D2 in his garage so what followed as a very enthusiastic hour getting drawings and dimensions of the D3 and tweaking the G4 Challenge logo as the one I have from EBay wasn’t the same as is on the original G4 Challenge wagons. Finally got the logos etc. to the standard required and he gave me a price!! £175 fitted (Landy mates price) Very Happy Wow! Impressed to bits with his enthusiasm and looking forward to seeing the end product.

Livery being printed on Monday and hopefully applied to my wagon on Thurs/Fri all going well.

I'm watching this with interest.

I had the exact same idea to get a set made up as i also have a silver car.

If it looks good, i may copy the idea... Laughing

Andy i'll give you the guys details as soon as the livery is on and photos posted. He will already have the template for anyone else that wants the same done and give him business from Land Rover fans at a fraction of the cost.

He did spend a lot of time re doing the G4 and the wording CHALLENGE as both are not the same as the ones on EBay. It would seem the ones on EBay are incorrect and I must admit it was he who spotted it and was adamant that it be changed in order for it to look right Laughing

A word of caution.......

Hi,

The graphics look great, but I would urge a word of caution.....

The Red Crescent and Red Cross are VERY protective of the use of their logos, and you may end up being being sued for non permitted use.........you can use the G4 Challenge logo's (even though LR may gripe) and the chevrons....

The G4 Challenge vehicles have a special dispensation from both Landrover, and the Red Crescent and British Red Cross Society's for use.......

As this is a standard car, and not associated in any way with the Challenge, you may want to have a good think about this before you spent £175 and end up having it ripped off if they come after you.......

Unless of course yours is one of the two silver D3's kitted out as ambulances for the 2009 challenge?

Not saying this to be mean, but to make you aware of potential consequences.......

Hi mate I did have this discussion with the graphic guy before going for the final draft as I know even though military vehicles use red cross emblems on them we are technically not allowed to by the red cross rules. I think my train of thought here is that the logo states "IN SUPPORT OF" and not we are or belong to the Red Cross or Crescent. Should they decide to push the issue then it would be a simple case of covering it up with something else Very Happy

Cheers

As long as you accept there may be consequences, crack on.

Having foreseen possible issues with using the "IN SUPPORT OF RED CROSS & RED CRESCENT" I had toyed with the idea of putting on a H4Hs sticker to show support for this charity and give publicity. As you can buy these from the charity direct and they actively encourage publicity I think this may be more worth while Very Happy as i'm a squaddie myself it's a no brainer really and stops people getting upset I guess Rolling Eyes

I was going to have one on my rear side windows anyway so why not have it as bold as brass on the side to fly the flag for this great charity Thumbs Up

I suppose the possibilities are endless. I do like the look of this and have needed an excuse to fit some expedition equipment.

You could always make up something similar to the 1,000,000th Discovery had fitted to it?

I quite like it as well.

Guys all done and finally on the wagon. I personally think it looks ace Laughing but that's just my opinion Wink Everyone will have there opinion on if it looks good, bad etc etc but those that wanted to see the end product will hopefully now have an idea of what it looks like should you decide on something similar Laughing
