Probably a stupid question but my 2004 D3 SE headlights are quite weak at night. Is there a blub i should upgrade to for better visability?
Also is there a way to reduce the head light blur you get on your windscreen from oncoming traffic while night driving due to the heated srceens elements running through it?

Your SE appears to have Xenons, so you're not looking for replacement halogens or a HID conversion kit? 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Kevin,
What Martin means is that, given the spec. (SE) and year of the car shown as your profile, you ought to have Xenon lights. However, given that you're complaining about low light intensity rather than blinding on-coming road-users (which can occur when the high/dip shutter gets stuck), I'm going to guess that you have halogens due to a swap by LR or a former owner.
I don't know how you can be certain - perhaps part number from one unit rather than estimating how long it takes your vision to return after staring down full beam for 1 minute. I recall that there are dire warnings on the back of my Xenons about high voltage, so if none, it may indicate Halogen.
Here is a picture of the front of a Xenon - I think the pronounced lens effect is the tell-tale and here is a shot of the back, with the plastic twist cap removed
From your prior postings, I'm also guessing that you'd prefer a cost-conscious upgrade, so you could pm forum member Hids4U for the best price on a pair of HID bulbs.
Should you want Xenons, Slimer was a good source of OEM units at a cracking discount to the LR list price (sorry, Nick). Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

Your pic in yoiur gallery looks like Xenon headlights, so no 'upgrade'
Do you have a very sharp line of light where it stops horizontally at night? (when on normal beam) These take a bit of getting used to, as halogens have a very soft edge, so not so noticeable.
If you have a Halogen D3 next to a Xenon D3, you will definately notice the Xenons being much much brighter. Bodsys Brake Bible

you could upgrade to a 55w HID system or try some different colour bulbs
I replaced the standard OEM bulbs with some whiter ones - 6000k
You can get some good quality korean (not chinese) ones from HIDS4U or i actually have the Philips bulbs - colourmatch at the moment which are pretty good
Also worth noting that HID bulbs get less bright with age - so a simply replacement with new bulbs would bring you more light albeit a yellow light
We have just bought a huge amount of Phlips D2S - so could be time for a special price for members. LR and other retails charge from 65 to 150 per bulb. We can do a pair for 65 inc vat and postage for a limited time

Jason,
Welcome to the forum!
You'll be pleased to know that member verydisco has a detailed post on just this subject - click here, plus a thread on the feedback - click here as well..
If you have any questions relating to what he's done, it's probably best to post in the second thread, to keep matters on topic and tidy.
There is also the introduction thread here. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

Hi Guys,
My drivers side headlight has failed today. It seemed to be getting weak for a couple of days. Do I just need a replacement bulb? I'm not sure. Also, what sort of cost is involved?
Thanks
Conor.

Hi CD,
From your description, I suspect that it is the bulb. The cheapest way to find out is to buy a replacement bulb and fit it.
Best Wishes,

The cheapest way to see if it is the bulb is simply to take the working bulb from the other headlight and swap it over......
