D3 Manual Recovery

Can I tow a D3 manual for about 20 miles ok? Anything special I need to do or just keep the speed down and good to go.

Cheers.

Hi

But know the more experienced members here will be able to guide u a lot better Thumbs Up

I 'think' that only applies to the Auto boxes only but I stand to be corrected hence my question.

Indeed , I’ve always been led to believe towing an auto is a big no no

However on a manual I’m not 100% sure what would happen towing it with all 4 x wheels on the ground with the rear prop attached

Know that’s not much help to u Whistle

Yes, it is possible as long as you have all four wheels on the ground and a few other rules.

See page 217 in the owner’s manual ... or this PDF https://lr3tips.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/05_driving.pdf

Thumbs Up

Not sure, but I suspect the main gearbox on a manual has a built in oil pump which is driven by the engine, so lubrication is reduced when towing. I haven't the manual to hand to check

The owner’s guide doesn’t seem to differentiate between a manual and automatic transmission.

I just read the same. I surprised there is no different instruction for a manual.

I can see no reason why you couldn't tow a manual D3 for some distance. Even if the gearbox pump is not being driven from the input shaft (if there is a pump) the loads on the gearbox are so minimal, the splashing oil should be more than adequate.
