d3 sat nav

hi got the hse without sat nav.
I know the srock one is not highly rated but I wish to install it the easy way.

TDubbs25 i think has knowledge? any one else

Between me and the mrs we are quite competent but still have not seen a proper write up, nor are sure of the MOST cable extension required. Is it wiggs? that sells them?

any info or pics appreciated.

Agree, all you'll gain is the 4x4 info and a really dated nav system but if you fancy it, here's the link: https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/fitting-oe-...42860.html
 Mods:
Front Fogs + Halos
FBH Remote Control
The 1st Ever RRS Modded Grill
Garmin Nuvi + D4 Surround + Reversing Camera.
D4 Steering Wheel.
Rear Boot Spoiler.
Twin Brake Lights.
Wing Mirror Indicator Repeaters.
Long Roof Rails
Make your own Narpy grill thread
I'm not scared, I'm outta here.

Thanks team.

I've seen that very detailed thread.
However, unless I'm mistaken there is an easy way apparently.
I've got a rough idea. Just need confirmation.

You're mad.

The LR stock satnav is utterly Censored . I mean it's the absolute worst. Seriously. You'll hate it.

Why not change the stock head unit for one with built-in satnav, have something probably a billion times better, with better sound and at a vastly lower cost.

I hear you. I really do.

However. The stock head unit is part of the most system with the h k amp etc.
Don't really want to mess with it.

So other alternative is to put something in the Cubby
Though that doesn't look like a 5 minute job either.

Besides, I'm just getting all the information together for now.

Well, I'm going to go against the tide of the forum.

Up here where not many road systems change, I think there is not a lot wrong with it.
Been using it 2 years now and find that it has worked well and not made many mistakes.

Don’t mince yer words!! Laughing Laughing

The LR system is completely pants, it was designed in the early naughties and looks, feels, and works like it. Best to either use GoogMaps (my choice of nav tool), TomTom or Garmin. It is seriously not worth the hassle, never mind the cost. Plus you’d loose the cubby hole for sunspecs, change, receipts, etc, etc, etc. Thumbs Up

Really appreciate the information and opinions.

I've looked at videos of the system.
It doesn't look bad to me.

I like the fact that you would get all the diagnostic stuff and pretty bells and whistles to look at.
Also surely with an updated DVD the navigation would be
better?

Not sure if it's my imagination but seems like americans have more trouble with it?

As for fitting a Garmin or something, for the effort of getting a surround to fit or have it rattling around, that seems like more hassle than it's worth.

So I guess I'm looking at a clean tidy solid installation with some nice land rover unlocks.

I may not do it yet , but I'm looking at the job and with a little more info and a partner who wires aircraft for a living, I'm not daunted or put off.

If you do decide to go ahead, don't rule out the Garmin ( other sat navs are available Mr. Green ) and D4 surround install. Many members, inclu myself, have completed this mod and it beats the factory nav hands down, plus it looks totally standard with no silly wires exposed and it won't "rattle around" if you do the install correctly. Ok so I went ahead and did it.
Really wasn't too hard in all fairness.

Total cost probably 450 Australian.

That will go up as I only have a cheap antenna at moment.
