should my d3 sink on its suspension over a day or so?

im still getting to grips with the D3 and its differences from my well loved but sadly very inferior TD5 90!

one question about suspension issues......

if I leave my D3 for a day or so parked and come back to it - its seems to sink on the air suspension.

first thing on startup is that it obviously shuffles itself up to the right selected height.

Now this isnt really so much an issue if its right - but its still under warranty ... so if its wrong !!!!

so can someone tell me if this is normal behaviour or am I suffering aleak somewhere

thanks

Simon

If its settled to the bump stops then the answer is no...

Your D3 will settle when locked to try and level itself... and again when awoken (unlocked).

Mine definitely does not, other than a gentle fart if I happen to leave it on a road that is not quite level. However I do tend to leave it in access height.

If it is under warranty get it checked, I haven't tried the wonders of LR warranty on a G4 after it has expired, but I think they may be less accomodating than on a standard car.

It is a leak.

Mine does it as well. Local independent garage spent an hour with a water spray bottle and eventually found a leak at the base of the front suspension strut. A pinhole which leaks over about a day.

Car is fine when started and immediately gets back to proper height.

I'm going to have it fixed at the next service.
I'm on a whisky diet. I've lost three days already.

It's a Land Rover - leaks are normal Smile Doesn't mean they shouldn't fix it, of course...

With reference to settling upon startup and locking. I believe the vehicle re-adjusts more often than this. For example after having the vehicle stood for a few hours I then start jacking to remove a wheel the vehicle will start to adjust itself immediately. So, just to throw a different perspective in, if for some reason the vehicle self levelling was too sensitive the vehicle may self level a number of times, causing the suspension too eventually drop to the access height.

I'm not suggesting in anyway that I think this is the cause of Simons D3 fault, just putting it up as a theoretical cause.

Salesman where I bought mine said he always parks D3s in Acess mode. Could this be why?

Does everything last longer if you do so?

My D3 had a leak in the air suspension. There was a faint hiss from the region around the front bumper. Apparently a loose pipe had been rubbing on something. It caused it to drop on one corner. Land Rover Warranty (4th year purchased one) paid for it.

There was a thread about a year ago wherein a forum member was convinced that his D3 was sinking overnight. He provided mm measurements from the top of the center cap on the wheel to the bottom edge of the fender. Responders compared their typical mm readings. I just searched and couldn't find the thread - but the info within would be useful to determine if there is a leak. Anyone know where this thread is located?

Mine did it, too,
but now it doesn't!!! Thumbs Up
There were air leakings in the 4 cushions and had to change them (extended warranty didn't pay anything at all Evil or Very Mad ).
I tow a caravan and didn't want any kind of trouble while travelling.
It may be USUAL, but shouldn't be NORMAL.

David.
