First sign of low battery voltage is gearbox error messages.

So do you think it could just be a flat battery then?

Would this cause it not to start too? Any bulbs in particular.

I'm not sure if this will help at all, but I recently provoked a similar error.
I changed the Instrument Pack for a new one (because I was bored ) and upon turning the key to position II instantly got a shedload of error messages, the main one being supension fault (amber->red lamp) and "Suspension Fault - max 30mph" message.
When they key was turned to position III absolutely nothing happened. No cranking, nothing.
Although I was only playing around I put the old Instrument Pack back in and it worked fine. When I checked the fault codes with the Faultmate FCR, I could see that there was an error in the suspension module "Invalid VIN data".
This means that when we turn the key, the D3 as part of it's start-up checks verifies that the VIN data stored in various modules is all correct and matches up. (I think it is stored in the Instrument Pack, Suspension Module and Body Control Module).
When it finds a mismatch it simply bottles it and refuses to start (maybe related to the immobiliser too?).
I guess that this could also happen when you have a serious communications error between the suspension ECU and a.n.other ECU and this could explain your problem...
Saying this, it doesn't help you to solve it 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Paul, thanx for your reply, I had to get the dealer to recover it as technician couldnt fix it at the roadside. I hope this isnt a sign of things to come, Ive always had audis and subarus before and have never once had a problem from any of the numerous cars ive had. If i doesnt get sorted sooner rather than later the dealer can have it back!
