D4 18" rims - custom order |
|
Thought I'd post this here, although it's really for Australian D4 owners ....
I've been talking to the state GMAX wheel distributor about sourcing an 18" rim that will fit the D4 3.0 ltr. Here in Oz, there are quite a few off-road tyre options for the 18" rim size, but only one or two for the 19". There was one off-the-shelf 18" rim that almost cleared the calipers, so he went back to the factory and asked on my behalf about a custom order.
They have come up with an 18x8 design (a forged alloy rim) that will clear the calipers and is load rated for the RRS and D4. Their offer is for a custom run of 15 sets of 5 rims each. Cost is $375 AU per rim, so $1875AU for a set. If anyone is interested, PM me. I'm not sure what the deal on freight would be - presumably they will send rims to their retail branches free-of-charge.
There's a picture of the design in my gallery:

Gordon
That is excellent news, how do they know it will fit? Have they made a prootype?

We tried their current 'Brembo' 18" rim on an RRS 3.0 ltr, which had a tapering internal diameter. It _almost_ fitted over the calipers, so we measured the internal diameter at the point where the calipers touched the rim and the GMAX distributor took away the measurements to his design team. Hence the custom build.

Gordon, how you going with the custom build of 18inch D4 rims? I live in Perth and have just ordered a D4 3 litre (delivery in May 2010). Would potentially be interested.

Jeff,
Now that you have at least 5 posts, send him a pm as I don't think he logs on to this site very often.

What has happened: these rims are between me and a D4: will ship them to the peaceful land of ZA if they are really around!

Unfortunately, Gordon couldn't get the equired 15 customers for a special run.
He is now looking at a different option.
I suggest that you pm him.
