D4 3rd party warranty - looking for recommendations |
|
Hi there,
Having just bought my D4, and having previously owned D1's, a D2 and an L322 I know how potentially expensive repairs to these can be, especially from D3 onwards with all the electronics.
I would therefore like to take out a 3rd party extended warranty on it. I know many won't accept a vehicle of 9 years old and with 129k on the clock, so looking for feedback on who will and who is the best/most competitive.
Thanks.

Hi Arch,
when you have a spare few hours have a go with the "Search" button in the title bar above ^^
there are a lot of posts about the warranty options, including refer a friend, try searching "warranty Direct"
as a start.

Vehicle Warranty 4U and MBG Direct - any experience |
|
Hi there,
Does anyone have experience of either Vehicle Warranty 4U or MBG Direct.
For my 2011 D4 ES, VW4U are Autoguard insurers, and they offer a 50% promotional price of £789.00 for their Premium Cover for 3 years cover, including Diesel Particulate Filter and EGR.
MBG Direct offer a rolling monthly premium (can be cancelled any time with 30 days notice) of £10.99 for their Catastrophe Cover policy.
Both have similar extent of cover, difference in limits per claim (£1,000 and £3,000 respectively) and the Excesses (Zero and £350 respectively).
VW4U has no limit to max number of claims, whereas MB&G is the market value at time of initiating the policy.
While it may be more expensive, it is still in my view worthwhile and so I am considering VW4U. Most of the others who offer policies won't quote due to age and mileage of the D4 (9 years and 129k).
Appreciate any feedback of experience on the two above, thanks.

If you have a D4 go with warranty direct as they still cover the crank. I personally would get the minimum cover available (as long as it covers the crank) and then put the rest of the money you would have spent into a bank account. Then when it goes wrong, use that cash and make very good friends with Disco Mikey. James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

There’s an old saying, “if it sounds to good to be true....it probably is”. To offer a warranty at £800 for 3 years or £11 a month for a 9 year old car, I can’t see it paying out, even £1600 for 3 years is very cheap.
You also have Paul at Elite Landrover in Clydebank as a closer option, he is also well recommended Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Warranty Direct or Scotsure are the only companies I'd recommend fully, with LRA/CCP a close third (but don't cover "known faults" such as crank/inlet manifolds etc My D3 Build Thread
