Does a D4 bonnet fit into the rear of the vehicle?

Firstly, no inuendo intended - but I realise some may seek it!

Having unintentionally culled a large deer a couple of weeks ago with the front end of SWMBO's D4 I am needing to replace the bonnet (amongst other items Rolling Eyes ).

I have managed to track one down at a reasonable price in the same colour as the rest of her car Very Happy .
Bad news is that we are 4 hrs north of Carlisle and the bonnet is in the midlands. Sad
Good news is that SWMBO is visiting her father in Herefordshire this weekend Very Happy

Simple question - has anyone transported a D4 bonnet in the rear of their car (in one piece)? My measuring suggests it will be tight.

Thanks in advance

Without measuring it, or better even, trying it, it's a hard one to call. Of course, it'd have to go in diagonally, but I guess you have thought of that in your measuring. Another option (assuming the good lady is going in the offending Disco) is to fit it or have it fitted down there if it won't squeeze in. Or as a last resort, explore ways to get it delivered. After it's been offered up to the car, and it won't fit. But getting it fitted or delivered obviously means expenditure.

So, as you've realised, I don't know. But sometimes it helps if someone lays out your alternatives, even though they could well have occurred to you.

Do you have a set of roof bars? Not ideal for such a long trip but having it mounted forward facing and well secured on the roof will reduce drag... I have a pair of Thule roof bars you could borrow if needed, and some decent strength ratchet straps.... otherwise do you know anyone with a small trailer you could borrow?

Thanks both

In theory it should fit - provided the passenger seat is moved forward and the bonnet is then put in diagonally with the hinge end on the floor behind the passenger seat and the leading edge resting above the windows behind the driver. In theory! It may need to be 'rotated in' as it is a bit squeaky bum - less than 25mm to spare, but time will tell.

We have roof bars and a selection of trailers so they are both a viable Plan B if necessary - I have a lot of work to do in Wales this winter so will be up and down the M6 more times than a tarts drawers.

The current plan is for the breaker to hold onto the bnnet until SWMBO sees it on her way south or north (the crap weather today means she may be running late). If it is OK then she will try to bring it north. If it doesn't fit then the breaker will hold on to it for a few weeks until I can get down and either collect or swap it over myself.

Just for reference, I got a roof rack in the rear of my D4 with no trouble.
The roof rack did spit in two, but the long section (D - B pillar) went in with no problem at all and plenty of room left.

As Disco-Mikey will confirm, I am no stranger to getting things into the rear of our D3 and D4 - including various boats, multiple wheels and all kinds of steelwork. I only asked because (a) SWMBO is involved, and (b) it will be a very very close thing!

(that is a full sized load tray on top of the wheels!)

My post wasn’t questioning how much volume you could get in a Disco.

The roof rack is not far off the dimensions of a Disco bonnet, hence posting the pic to help give you an indication.

But top marks in getting all that sh*t in your Disco. Thumbs Up

Understood - and thanks.

The photos are my equivalent of Del's snow-covered wheely bins or his D3 somewhere in the desert!

That wuld be excellent if you could manage it without upsetting SWMBO. It will help me manage expectations with my own!
