Before I go off to the dealer to try and strike a deal I thought I should get some advice. What kind of discounts are available on a new XS and is the drivethedeal price realistic?
2nd question is whether I can expect the D4 used price to follow that of the D3 XS? Asking this as the earliest I can expect a new D4 in Nov so may consider a 59 plate to save some money. Other advantageis it'll be run in and I can take it across the continent straight away.

I bought an HSE thru Motorlogix.com a couple of months ago. Currently the XS has £3623 discount including the broker fee.
Everything worked very smoothly. The car is brand new, unregistered, and supplied thru a UK Land Rover main dealer with 12 months tax and half a tank of fuel.
No I dont work for them but promised I would pass on the details as my experience was such a good one.

Spoke to a dealer only last week about a used D4, 8 months old standard with the 2.7 diesel engine and 8k on the clock. Discount was about £2000 of the new price.I have something to say! It's better to burn out... than to fade away!

Thank you for all the replies so far. I'll get back to the dealer and see what happens.
I'm still wondering whether it would be better to opt for a 9-12mth old one so I don't need to run it in before I take it travelling the world. Will have to do some more research into used prices I think.

When I went to buy mine back in January the best deals by far were on new ones and i bought one ( which came eight weeks later) for less than what secondhand ones were going for ( I could obviously have bought an used one there and then) Also had the advantage then of it being on the 0%APR offer and a brand new car to our spec. Not sure what the current situation is but a colleague recetly sold a six month old XS back to dealer for only £1500 less than what he paid new for it.
Reference running in - all they need is 500 miles. I took mine away towing the caravan when it was two weeks old having done that and had no issues.

Buying a new one does sound like a good option. I have just under 2 months before I need to order the car so still long time to go (won't be as long as the lead time though.)

Another question.
Looking at the spec list it seems that the only thing I would miss from the XS is 4x4 info (when activated). I just wondered what does it contain?

The 4x4 info is just a gimmick to be honest.
Other than seeing which way your wheels are pointing its not a great deal of use in the heat of off-road driving.Duncan

My arms are pretty restless. I thought XS only had manual leather seats?

Just be careful if you buy through the broker, dont pay your deposit to them as they could go bust then what?? If you pay the dealer directly its always preffered! See your PM for details.

I used the broker price as negotiating terms with the dealer. I'm prepared to pay for the convenience of the local(ish) dealer and they matched the broker price pretty closely in the end.

My Dealer was only prepared to give me half the amount that the broker was offering, plus gave me a snotty attitude so i up'd and walked, i took my money elsewhere. The brokers dealer will be delivering the car on Wednesday next week!! i cant wait!
