D4 EGR valves - can they be blanked off?
Hi all,
Does anyone know whether the EGR valves can be blanked off on a D4? And if so, where can I get it done and approximate cost? I'm in Melbourne and I have a TDV6 2.7.
The car is only 6 months old and i've noticed lots of black smoke since day 1. From what I have read (both on this forum and elsewhere) the smoke is largely because of the EGR system.
I've also read that blanking off the valves (on a 2.7 D3) helps get rid of the throttle hesitation on take off and helps with throttle response generally. Is this correct?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Trent.

D4 2.7 smokes more than the D3, probably due to different mapping. I would be getting the dealer to look at it as it is under warranty though.
Blanking in a Discovery after MY07 will bring up a fault code. NO solution yet but BAS are working on one I believe but you may have to wait longer for the D4.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I suspect they can still be blanked but you will get a fault light, is that correct?
The fault light doesn't trigger anything else like limp home mode etc. does it?Selling my wifes Audi A3 2.0LTR FSI DSG Sport to help pay for her D3

It might - many "minor" faults have an associated event counter. A priority algorithm then decides whether to escalate the problem based (in part) on the number of event counts. Not sure if this applies to the EGR fault light.

Basically it may cause limp mode or reduced power after it has been ogged too many times.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

This thread on the RRS forum indicates that it might work on later 2.7s.

Thanks all!
Seems I won't know if it will work or not until I try it.
Where can I source the blank off parts? Are they difficult to fit?

I (think) I read that you can feed Bleed air from the sump breather to "fool" the Sensor that it's still measuring Exhaust Gas...........
Of course, now that I'm trying to find it, it seems to be invisible.
Anyone got more info ??

The monitoring is a position feedback signal for the valve opening mechanism, not a gas sensor.Home of LLAMS, for LRs and Jeep GCs
