D4 Fire Extinguisher Installation (VPLAS0041)

Also strange that I couldn't find the instructions for VPLAS0041 on the D4 accessories page in TOPIx only instructions for the generic Land Rover Extinguisher STC8138AB. Eventually found VPLAS0041 in the L320 page via a Google search. I've saved 3 sets of instructions in my gallery: -

Didn't see those when i fitted mine to my D4 electric seats and the passenger side... does it say why you should fit seat specific? It was a bit of a bit*c! to fit and I won't move it unless I have to.
I would offer one piece of feedback in that once you have uncoupled all the electrical looms from under the seat to fit the bracket be very careful when you refix them to check they still can cater for movement of the seat. I nearly ended up fixing the looms back and then had the seat been moved to it's usual limits it would have ripped the wires apart...
Maybe it was just my amateur diy but it would be easily done (he said trying to feel more competent..)..

On the electric seats I think you can fit to either side, manual is seat specific, but in typical LR fashion the instructions aren’t very good.
Didn’t have any issues with wiring looms when doing mine, just popped out the two plastic plugs and then refitted them to the bracket. You do have to make sure the bracket goes behind the wires and that the one nearest the centre is free to move but otherwise no issues.
I found a bigger problem was fitting the bracket only to have to take it off again to fit the rivnuts which weren’t mentioned in the instructions and the screws weren’t long enough so a quick trip to Screwfix and cutting down some spacers so that the bracket wasn’t being forced against the plastic.
I also fitted the nozzle towards the door to allow slightly more room when getting in and out, minor things but makes a difference I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

I have 2 x 1kg in my car, 2 x 1kg in the garage, 1 x 2kg in our unit, 2 in our building's common areas 1 x 4.5kg ABE & 1 x 5kg CO2
One on each side or the car, would prefer one in the front but 1kg gets in the way or one's feet.
If you are carrying extra fuel you do need a 2kg extinguisher, 8 seconds is all you have. 5 seconds on a 1kg extinguisher.
I have done a fire extinguisher short couse with the fire brigade & unless you have had instructions you will not get a fire out first time.
Give the ABE extinguisher a bash once a month as the contents settle & set like concrete. With 2 extinguishers just bast them together to loosen up contents.
Well done on putting an extinguisher in the car, I have seen a car go up in flames in the street & it is amazing just how quickly it is all too late to do anything. Frightening stuff. More so when extinguishers failed in the situation I observed.
