D4 first hand
Trawled over the new D4 this morning at Canary Wharf with Slimer and Bobbycrispbox ....after speaking for some considerable time to the Gaydon tech there ...here are a few notables :
The bonnet is the same ....the wings front bumper and light housings are not ...and it's not a straightforward retro fit option as the loom is different. He did say you could probably botch it to fit if you tried hard enough.
Behind the grill there are three radiators in front of the main rad. Slimer can probably remember what they are for ...but they will get in the way of an Allisport intercooler upgrade.
No option for a second battery as the box is full of braking and alarm bits
No changes to the EPB
Second air intake is a a dud
The dash is still an acquired taste ...but the camera system is cool though 8)
Infotainment is an improvement and the HDD software is updated over the air 8) No speedcam poi's planned.
Big story is that LR are apparently working hard on a self-healing paint

A few manufacturers already have this paint or a similar product. Porsche have tried the technology and while it cuts down on minimal scratches, the deeper ones that are inflicted are a nightmare to remove. When the paint gets heat under machine polishing it gets 'sticky', although machine polish manufacturers are bringing out new products to use on these paint types.
A step in the right direction though

Oh dear, how stupid is that .
Did you see any places where one could be fitted. The aux battery is probably my most useful accesory. Duncan

The second batter box was a good boasting point when faced with toyota and nissan owners - more importantly, it was bloody useful!! I guess there's space in the boot? Strange how the TDV8 seems more compact than the 3.0Tdv6 - second battery box is empty on those.....
Hopefully the EGRs are more reliable - but the pipes seem easy enough to get to.
WTF is EPB the same, don't they read this forum?
Great pics btw, the LR guy must have been ing himself!

Bigger brakes mean 18" is definitely the smallest rim you'll get over them unless you go for the 2.7L TDV6 D4 which will apparently have the existing brakes
Intercooler is still below the main rad though looked slightly less exposed, mini-rads in front of main rad are for (I think) power steering, fuel and oil coolers. No room for an after-market intercooler I suspect unless you retrofitted a D3 front end
Front recovery point cover is a bit easier to remove, as is the grill once you know how
No sump plug or manual dipstick
Alarm sounder now has FoMoCo rather than Volvo sticker on it we didn't test it but I suspect it's no louder
In the second battery box one of the extra bits (smaller black box at the front) looks to be to do with the glow plugs, no idea what the large black box is. Both looked like you could relocate the with a loom extension but WTF you'd put them I don't know as there's less room in the engine bay than the D3, which is presumably why they ended up where they are.
Both horns are now in front of the rad as can be seen above
Twin feeds out of airbox as expected for twin turbos
Roof bump has re-appeared, now contains DAB antennaThe End

It looks like the air intake pipe and fan cowl will be less easy to remove, and intercooler washing by the MrH method will therefore be harder to do. Is that a turbo pipe that crosses the right-hand side of the air intake pipe?

According to the D4 info posted here by NeilD, the 2nd intake is required for the new engine...

a side intake on each side necessary for breathing and the twin intake of the new powertrain.
Is this not the case ???

Its not required according to the tech ... aesthetics only ...we couldn't find anything running from it 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

The oil level is displayed electronically ....and the oil change is done by putting your lips around this tube and sucking like there's no tomorrow
