D4 Front or Rear Differential ?? |
|
So my 2012 D4 went in for the cambelts 2 days ago and the mechanic tells me that the constant humming is one of the differentials, seems it is usually the front which goes?, but how can I tell front or rear without going to the lengths of checking the magnets?
Is there a full replacement aftermarket kit available for both front and rear?

Interestingly I'm in the same situation.
My D4 went in for yet more work and I asked them to check the front wheel bearings as I thought one was on the way out. They came back and said its the front diff.
In their experience they said they have only ever replaced rear diffs, never a front one.
I've had a price of £1,400 ish for a new diff and installing. Putting that on hold for now.
The only thing I'm not sure about is if the worst came to the worst can the D4 drive with a propshaft removed?
It was a clear rumbling noise from the front, but got louder when the LH wheel was loaded on corners.
Sorry, not much help for you.
Sandy.

thks Sandy, after a bit of research it seems that it is usually the front diff, which contrasts with your garage's experience. You cant even buy a replacement for the 2012 D4 TDV6 8 speed LR 055520 so it looks like I am going to shoot for DA5039 the bearing refurb kit https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/land-rover/d...fferential

so in the end it was thankfully the RHS front wheel bearing, strange as it wasnt detectable at the rigorous Swiss MOT nor on a lift. The car is sooooo much smoother now
