D4 headlights

Hello all.

It appears i may have to change my headlights as i am now permanently here in France.
I have a 2015 D4SE with facelift Xenon headlamps.

(No, i do not have a lever to move nor do i have settings in the computer to change and even though they are Xenon the beam is not flat but does kick up to the left for driving in England.)

So i was looking at replacement costs.....crumbs! But if i buy pre facelift lamps i can get them for £229 a side instead of £473 which is quite a bit of difference.

My questions are....

1, do they fit
2, do they work

Cheers all for any help or advice.

(I am still exploring the idea of splitting my lamps open by de-tango'ing them to get at the shutter that runs across the front of the bulb that provides the UK beam pattern and filing/cutting it flat to provide a flat beam pattern suitable for France. It is that angle up on the left that is causing it to fail the French MOT.

)

Are you sure they are xenon and not projector lamps?- the difference in identifying them is the xenon have a square block on the back of the bulb and projector have a round back.
AFAIK nobody has succeeded in opening the later lamps up, a different type of adhesive has been used that does not respond to heat like the older lamps.
The cost of swapping them will be reduced by the value of your old lamps.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Haven't you posted on another thread that the units are marked as LHD ? Why not complain at a dealer and see if they can sort something??

An update.

So, it appears the pre facelift halogens will work, i have been told by a technician at LR. However, they require grill mods to get them to fit and i would still need to by a pair which even though cheaper as halogens than the Xenons would still cost a fair bit and the difference in price would not make it worthwhile.

My idea of opening the lamp to access the shutter to modify it is not really on. I have found a couple of sites where it has been tried with no success (as M3DPO says). The design of the facelift lamp does not allow this and it just does not separate. I do not wish to destroy mine as i will sell them on when i have my replacements.

I will now try to hunt down a set from a breakers here in France prior to lashing out so if any one has any bright ideas in the next month or so shout up, i am all ears.

Cheers all.
