D4 - hesitation or lag when driving uphill

Morning guys

I drove my dad’s disco 4 last night up a relatively steep hill with lots of tight / steep hairpin turns.

On one I had to reduce speed on the approach to maybe 5-10mph. It was a sharp left-hander. When I then tried to accelerate out of the corner (I’m not racing around here, normal driving) there was a distinct lack of response when I applied the throttle. It was at least a second of basically nothing, then a big surge of power (more than I wanted!).

Is this a known feature of the D4? I have a D3 and have never noticed anything like it, though it’s sometimes sluggish off the line, this felt more like a software controlled hesitation as there was almost no engine response to throttle application for a moment.

Thanks,

Chris

Have a read at this, lots of others on the forum, brake light switch seems to be an issue as well.

Could be just as simple as ….. the Disco gearbox gets to know and responds to the driving style of the regular driver.
So if the vehicle is used to normal/slow automatic up-shifts, then that is how it’ll respond.

Though personally, in that driving experience you just described, I’d have put it in ‘command shift’, and changed gear manually; as I’d want to control the vehicle’s gear changes rather than it control itself.
...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

In my limited experience there is a big difference in the response of a D4 to a D3, the D4 is much sharper and responsive it is almost like an on/off switch until you get used to it. Some re remaps on D3s can have the same effect.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
