| D4 MY12 gearbox problem?? |

Hope someone can help picked my new D4 up on monday. Generally very pleased but doesn't seem as smooth as it should be, rev counter bouncing about and seems jolty when slowing down. Any body else had this problem or is it me?

It could be still adapting to your driving style. If it's no better by the end of the week take it back and have them look at it. Club Exped trailer

Yes i was thinking that was the case, i thought I had seen a previous post that said the vehicle needs around 500 miles to bed in. Thanks for that

Mine's barely at 300 miles and the gearbox is wonderfully smooth. I am still driving gently, but what you describe doesn't sound right. Coming home last night in carpet slippers mode, it was changing up at about 1800 rpm and regularly find it going along at around 1200 rpm with out problems. 70mph is just over 1600 RPM so very quite

amazing just driving back to work and decided to go through the gears in sport and using the paddles, it now feels like a different car!!. Maybe I have freed something up?

1000 miles in and I drove to Snowdonia for the weekend up the M54/A5. For those that don't know the top end of the A5, the overtaking opportunities range from "limited" to "interesting". The new box was just made for this stuff - it changes down so quickly and smoothly that I hardly used S, just left it in D most of the time, using the paddles for engine braking when required. On the motorway too, it feels a lot quicker to accelerate than the previous D4. Nipping out a lane into a gap is effortless, again I think because the downshift is so fast. Eighth gear is pretty much an overdrive so it just drops down a cog as soon as you press the pedal, rather than hesitating a moment to check you meant it
It is not perfect though - I still think the rotary shift is a bl**dy silly idea! Knocking the lever sideways to get in an out of sport is a lot easier to do quickly than twiddling the dial - and on the old scheme, it wasn't possible to go from S to N
