D4 Oil / Service

Just got my 2011MY D4 back from it's very expensive 96k service (apparently they have to swap all the flexible brake hoses this time (and then the even more expensive belts on the next one!)), anyway... just noticed they've used Mobil 0W-30 oil - which doesn't sound right to me?

It's ACEA A1/B1 or Ford WSS-M2C913-A/B, and they've left me an extra top-up bottle of the same. I thought it had to be 5W-30 and a low SAPS for the DPF.

Should I be concerned? Confused

yep, as I understand it, if you've got a DPF it has to be a C1 oil (which aren't too easy to find Big Cry )

If the wrong oil really has been used then that would be a concern.

Brake flexis are 6 years or 90k, whichever is sooner, so that bit is ok.

Still waiting to hear confirmation from the main dealer as to what oil they've used. I wouldn't be surprised if they've used the wrong sort... they've been pretty rubbish generally.

Morris lubricants, do a specific 5/30 c1 oil, it's all I use, wouldn't put castrol on the chain of my push bike !

Hi Crews

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but thought it best to search for an answer first rather than start a new.

My MY11 D4 is due its 96k in January. If you don't mind me asking, can you let me know (by post or pm) how much the final service bill was please? I'm being quoted £507 by $tratstone in Cheltenham but they make no mention of brake hoses.

To my mind that is quiet good for main dealer.

Mine is due the 64k one in Jan and Westover Sailsbury have quoted £560.80, the 96k one is another big service.

Will give Stratstones ring am to see what they quote for mine

Westover is always going to be expensive.
Why not ask R&E Landrover the indy on the Churchfields Industrial Estate, they have always done me good.
Speak to Rob on 01722-411211.
It is a shame now as because I have a new D4 and took out the offer of free servicing at a very good price, it means I will have to use Westover now as they are my nearest Franchised Landrover dealer.
As you can guess I am not too happy with Westover Salisbury.
When I had my other Disco my phone suddenly started 'talking' to me when I was driving !!
I read the manual and pressed all the buttons but couldn't make sense of it so rang 'Ottons' as it was when I bought the vehicle new a year previous to ask if I could pop in and get someone to go through it with me.
The girl on the phone first asked if I had a vehicle manual, to which I replied yes, her reply. well it's all in there.
I told her I had read it but couldn't make head nor tail of it so was hoping someone could help.
She then asked if it was due a servicing as it could be explained to me then, it wasn't.
She said she'd speak to somebody and send me the details of how to set it up.
She E Mailed me a reference to the page in the manual and said if I needed any further help to ask when it comes in for servicing.

never sure why we worry about a few quid on a service dealers are the car specialist..so they are looking at all the other items that could fail...if you spend 50 grand on a car and grudge 600 quid on a ffservice you've bought the wrong car...end of..

Not begrudging of the costs, I'm well-prepared as I always use the main $tealer, was just interested to know if the cost they quoted Crews included the hoses or whether I should be prepared to set a few extra pennies aside. Thumbs Up

The D4 maintenance checklist is here:

http://media.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/u...20MY10.pdf

Item 40 on that list is:

LR Maintenance Checklist wrote:
"Replace all flexible brake hoses (Every 6 years) *"

The * denotes:

LR Maintenance Checklist wrote:
Adjust/Lubricate/Replace - Labour cost included in scheduled time except items marked *

Which - to me - suggests it is not included. Confused

Ah,now I get it, thanks to Galway green.
If you own a 50k car then you are supposed to be a big spender, I forgot that.
I don't begrudge spending £600 on a service provided it is good value for money but at more than two weeks wages that has to be very good value or I will start to begrudge it, end of.

Quiet right, but you would expect the Dealer to all the jobs on the sheet and supply all the goods they have charged for. This for me has not happened at 2 main dealers in Wiltshire.

So double the price for half the job, if had not taken some precautions and checked they would of got away with it. According to Warranty Direct claims records a D4 has a 14percent change of having an engine problem, wonder how much of that is due to parts, oil etc not being replaced by main dealers, knowing that most people would never have a clue.Main dealer fitters are paid bonuses for doing the job far quicker than the job spec says, so corners are cut and the car suffers, maybe you if you keep it long enough.

Not so much about the price but the actual service you get Thumbs Up
