D4 Options -Can Touch Screen Option be Separate from SatNav? |
|
I have a D4 3.0 SE on order (from Dec 09), and prior to ordering I had noticed the touchscreen (+ iPod connectivity) on the sound system was a $560 option in the catalogue. I rang the dealer (another person as my salesperson was on holiday) and asked if it needed to be ordered separately and he told me it was included.
My car isn't due to be delivered until April 2010.
Yesterday I went to the dealership to have a look around and noticed there were some non touchscreen SEs there on demo, and these didn't have the USB & iPod connectors.
I have since asked my salesman and he confirmed that no touchscreen was included. And indeed it is only possible to order the touchscreen option in conjunction with the SatNav, which brings the total to >$5000.
I just wanted to see if anyone out there knows whether it is indeed impossible to order touchscreen option separate from the SatNav option?
P.S. I know it's a bit late now as it probably needs to be factory fitted, and mine is already on the boat on the way here... Suzuki Vitara 3dr

No its not possible as the ipod connectivity module requires the use of the satnav's touchscreen. The default screen in the SE is not a touch screen, only a display. There is an aux connection.

Thanks for that reply.
It's strange because if I think about it in modules, then I would have thought the dependencies are:
1) Radio
2) Touchscreen (for control)
3) SatNav & perhaps a higher resolution screen (for navigation)
4) TV / Rear Camera etc
So I had hoped to get 1 & 2. It certainly looks like 2 & 3 are bundled closely together.
As my salesperson said, he sure wished that the touchscreen/USB/iPod was available as a separate option - it would be the most popular one, whereas a lot of people are baulking at spending $5000+ when they only want the iPod connectivity and not an overpriced SatNav. Oh well. Thanks! Suzuki Vitara 3dr

This Sat Nav bundling is a clear case of forcing up the price of a car. We wanted a rear camera as we had a Territory with a camera for the last 4 years and its dam handy. You can only get it with Sat Nav...
As far as I am concerned on a car like this the rear camera should have been standard. As for the sat nav a $300 Garmin unit has better functionality. Discovery 4 SE Long range fuel tank Kaymar Rear Bar.
