D4 panoramic roof replacement |
|
Hey everyone, i'm still a non-LR owner (have been trawling the internet for months to find a D4) but I believe i've found a 2014 that Im keen on, however the person selling it recently updated the description (and dropped the price) to say that the front of the roof has been damaged and its cracked the panoramic glass. They dropped the price by £3k. I havent been able to get hold of them yet to get some pictures of what the damage actually is so im only going on a one-liner. If I can get a picture, i'll post it.
Does anyone know where I could source a used panoramic roof, and how difficult for a bodyshop it would be to replace it? Is there any metal panelling that would require colour matching to the rest of the body or is it all glass?
Cheers

I don't think its a bodyshop to fit it more windscreen fitters, It may be possible to claim on your insurance policy (as a glass claim) once you have bought the car The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;

Thanks for the reply!
My thinking on body shop was if the metal work has been damaged, i guess it would need some kind of beating out. If it isnt too bad though, I can probably live with a dented roof, and just get the glass swapped out. Not knowing anything about the roofs on these, do you happen to know if you can swap just the glass out? I found an older post on here that had a very basic diagram and it looked like the whole panoramic roof is one piece?
I guess that leads me to another question....is there a workshop manual for the D4s online anywhere to download?

I think they may just swap the glass. A few on here have had it done but from memory you have to take it into a workshop as they cannot do it at your house. Its not a job I would want to tackle myself The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;

Even if you found a second hand one, it probably would be exceptionally hard in not impossible to remove it from the scraped car with out breaking it. A windscreen guy told me that they would normally break a windshield to replace it as the glue is so strong.

Thanks Phil, I have seen that (im a constant stalker in the for sale section), but sadly its a very long way away from me (around 400 miles) so wouldn't be possible.
Just for laughs and giggles I might call my local LR and see if they can give me a price for supply/fit.

I wonder if the whole panoramic roof comes away from the car with the glass all in place still?!

John thanks for sharing your experience, and I reckon that would be the case if I try for an insurance claim. Just out of interest how did yours get broken?

There’s a small star shape impact then cracked from there,
I honestly don’t know when or how it happened, can only assume a stone fired up from another vehicle but don’t remember anything.

Hopefully after a 2 week wait my roof is being replaced tomorrow at home, by Autoglass.
(wait due to glass being ordered and coming into stock)
I believe roof would cost 2k but i'm paying 75 on my excess through insurance.
Led to believe some Insurers do not cover sunroof or panoramic roofs under windscreen section, so be careful to check out before getting insurance cover D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

Surely, no insurance company would cover any damage to any vehicle that occurred before the policy was taken out...... especially if someone had posted about it on that new fangled interweb thingy. MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added
