D4 plug in chip

Guys i acknowledge the a site sponsor is working hard on the D4 remap. However there are available some plug in remapping devices that alledgedly provide 20% more power and 600 - 700nm torque. Has anyoner tried these. Do they work?

Even though ive done the remap for the D4 id be still interested in the results you get from a tuning box.

20 % more power from any form remap sounds a bit ambitious to me ?

I thought most of the remaps offered around 30% boost in both as a starting point, bringing the 2.7 in line with the stock 3.0, so 20% sounds reasonable depending on what you want from it. But given the 3.0l D4 leaves the factory with 600Nm on the spec sheet, I wonder if this chip might be for the 2.7 anyway?

If you did get a 30% boost on the 3.0l I do wonder how long the transmission will last with 780Nm running through it... Pete, can you comment?!

What i can say is i recon 780nm will probably cause major problems in the box, the tested working safe limits are less than that, and some of the components are manafactured with less than that in mind also.

20% peak sounds more resonable than 30% but thats still an optermistic 120Nm from a plug in box. Tbh its hard to say what it will do, there are many ways to produce a plug in kit so it depends on how they have done it.
I recon it will be a common rail box which i personaly think may struggle to give a 20% gain but who knows untill its tested.

I calculate my 2.7 mapping to give a peak of 20% increase in torque and bhp, see below the figures i always quote of this engine.
2.7L std 190/100x20+190=228- the std190=38bhp
2.7L std torque 440/100x20+440=528- the std440=88Nm

Just a thought on the gear box. The 3.0 TDV6 has the same box as the TDV8 and the supercharged 5.0. So one would think that it should take a bit more power as both these engines have larger outputs in Torque and KW respectively.
Also any remapping done by any company will need to increase the power so as to be useful, otherwise why would you bother?

I dont think either the new s/charged 5 litre or the TDV8 put out more than about 630nm do they?

You are correct, and no one has said that a chip will give over 700nm torque. 20% was bandied around but that just gets around 720nm not 780. The last chip upgrade gave our 2.7 15% more torque, so seeing this engine is the same basic motor just bored out to 3L , and doing the same calculation we could expect 690nm.
