D4 Prospect, time to get serious.

Hi all, tried to post previously that seemed to never appear, so here goes again.

Looking for D4, 20-23k to part with, no problem asking the usual questions of seller regarding vehicles but need to know the right, more technical questions to ask specific to D4's, I believe there are suspension issues to know about other than the hoary old compressor, which I think was largely resolved later, plus I think that after 62 plate onwards they are SD and 8 speed auto's, etc?

Any advice on how to avoid it all going wrong is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in anticipation.

Have a look in the For Sale section on here. There are a few really nice, well looked after D4s. Its better to buy a known car than take a punt. Thumbs Up

Thank you I will, I find that regarding information, there is just so much on here it's easy to get lost in it, and unless you have all day to browse it's easier to ask.

I was possibly looking at selling to get a ffrr…. Pm if you want details of mine it’s a 2014 commercial (cheaper tax) 5 seats and full Land Rover service history and still under full approved used warranty….it’s wanted for nothing……oh and and I’ve added a huge amount!
A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

Loads of advice on here.

My summary for you would be this...

Have a look at what's for sale on here, usually the better looked after stock and maintenance is everything. Seek out a trusted Independent garage who'll look after it, again on here. Think about a Warranty maybe for the first few years of ownership, again, lost of advice on here about which warranties. 8 speed is the one you want and have some funds to sort any niggles.

Good luck with your hunt and welcome...

I bought mine from a top chap on here (@Stingray) 4 years ago.

Mileage is just over 40k now and it looks as good as when I first picked it up. I have a permagrin when driving! Laughing

My only advice is:

    1. Be patient. I had to wait about 3 or 4 months before I found my ideal vehicle.

    2. Get a HPi check. I bought a pack of 3 for a reduced price. Not sure if they still do that???

    3. Get a warranty or put the amount away each month ready just in case.. I've had a warranty and thankfully not had to use it yet. (I hesitated writing the previous sentence as I don't want to tempt fate! Big Cry )

    4. Also try and get a fault reader to check for any serious issues. I took my Gap tool but something like the iCarSoft one will do just as well. For £99 you could be saving £1000s in repair bills.

This is the one I had prior to the Gap tool and I used it when I bought a Defender prior to D4 ownership.

Good luck with your search. You'll love it when you get it Thumbs Up

Recently moved here, and the weather's been awesome! Think we have our own microclimate! Looking to get a D4 ready for the 'proper' weather though Wink
