Last weekend I replaced the rear brakes, disks, pads and shoes. Before ordering the pads I checked this thread and confirmed that I had the earlier, alloy style calipers on the rear.
All good as I had tested the O/S caliper with a magnet. When I came to do the job I noticed that the N/S caliper looked a slightly different colour and yes, you have guessed, that one is steel. For now all is OK, but the N/S caliper was very hard to push the piston back, so ideally I would like to replace. Checking the AF website, the original calipers I believe are part numbers LR015524 and LR015586 and over £100 each. My chassis number is pre VIN AA547440. The calipers after that VIN are less that £40 each.
Does anyone know if I can swap to the later VIN calipers, replacing the calipers and carriers on both sides, but retain the new pads (LR055454), as these have only 400 mostly motorway miles on them.
Regards,
Steve
