D4 telling me to apply parking brake?
Hi all,
Serviced my discs pads and shoes today. Had a squeel a while ago so didn't use the parking brake until I'd replaced and adjusted etc.
Went to put it in bedding in mode and couldn't.
Despite me using the motor without applying the parking brake for two weeks and no warnings on the dash, today after starting the vehicle, it states "apply parking brake" and I get a flashing red P on the dash.
Applied the brake, squeals but doesn't apply the brake. Can still drive forward and back without any sign of the parking brake being on.
I tested the emergency pull release and there's no resistance at all, but that might be because the p brake isn't on?
The flashing light is baffling me, as it didn't flash before, so I'm guessing it's telling me it might not be latched? Hence the no resistance on the emergency cable?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Arghhh,
So I've taken the disc back off and the epb cable has slipped through the securing clip (held by the spring) and retracted.
How do I get that back out?
I can see the cable and the tip but pulling it does nothing.
Anything I can do with an id tool?
Cheers

Morning chap.
The cable is held by the clip, and the spring holds this in place; easy to get this wrong and out of line.
It sounds like the cable is in the applied position (but there may now be issues after you've pulled the emergency release cable?)
I'd now have a pair of molegrips on that cable and pull while someone releases the EPB to turn handbrake off. It may come out.
Did you use the brake bible and set the shoes to Mount mode before the work?
Shoes have to be adjusted correctly or the EPB over-reaches itself and can create problems.
The gear position is related to what the EPB is doing, and it will shout at you if you try to leave it out of Park, handbrake off etc.
Maybe read the faults and see what you have.
Getting that cable out might need a rematch if the emergency cable has been pulled though... First things first.
Good luck.2011 MY D4 HSE

Cheers for the reply mate.
I tied the "pull like hell while the epb is released" sounded stuck so tried the unjam on the IID. No joy.
I've now taken the epb cover off and freed the brass rod and it unjams on the tool now so hopefully once reassembled, making sure the clasp stays in place this time, I'll see how it goes. Then just to reapply silicone and put the cover back. What a stupid place to put the epb.

the way i sorted mine was to strip all the shoes out from the hub then i connected a shoe to the cable and with g clamp put pressure on the shoe via the hub then i applied the handbrake then i used the iid to select the service mode which then wound the cable fully out
i prob haven't explained it very well but you need tension on the cable before the iid can unwind the cableplease excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick, thankyou

Hi, that makes sense to me.
That probably would've worked if I hadn't jammed the brass rod against the nut at the end. Took a sharp tap with a mallet to free it off and then I could unwind it.
