D4 Vibrations

using the search brings up plenty of D3 vibration issues with various symptoms and resolutions but not much for a D4 ZF8 with the problem

just started this weekend, vibrations through the whole car, like driving on corrugated roads. But not doing it every time but may be between 30-50mph, have to verify this when I can get out.
It seemed to go away or at least ease off when I switched to Sport manual mode but id need to verify that a bit more to be certain
Suggestions on here via search are
tyres - all Pirelli with even wear and no apparent damage no vibrations through the steering wheel suggesting balance
wheels - all apparently good
prop shaft - possibly
prop shaft support bearing - possibly
Torque converter - god I hope not Big Cry
anything else - I have no idea

anyone had these symptoms on an 8 speed D4 before or any more reasoned suggestions ?

TIA

I had a similar issue, mine was caused by seized handbrake shoes. I replaced the shoes and discs and the problem went away, that was two years ago and still no more vibration.

You have asked for anything else, I had it when my Transfer Box bearings were on the way out . It had done 180K miles with plenty of towing.

Mines never towed as far as I'm aware.

Park brake has been squeaking a little bit on initial pull away when its been cold and stood a couple of days so it could be that. Thumbs Up

I was going to book it in to get props checked but ill get him to check brakes too.

Ironically I've just been out for an extended drive to collect some furniture I ordered weeks ago and its not vibrated once.

It would be worth checking all the suspension bushes, mounting points.

I had a similar issue - it was due to a nut (metal kind) being lodged in the mounting point of one of the lower arms - restricting movement thus creating a vibration!

How many miles?

I have had a similar vibration twice now in 6 months over say 2000 miles. My car has done just over 80k.

Trawling this forum and the www, I am thinking it’s an epb problem.
When it happens it stops when you slow down to a stop and set off again?

After the last episode a couple of weeks ago, my off side rear wheel has a load more brake dust than the near side.

I will live with it until it’s due a service....

Bodseys brake bible gives all of the info on strip and repair....

my car has done just under 113k but has a full documented service history from new. When it was serviced in July he did say the pads were getting low all round, but as ive only done about 2k miles since then its still fine.
The EPB does sound like a possible culprit as it can go for 2-3 days without me driving it currently, and the brakes have been a bit squeaky when pulling away from the house until ive worked the brake pedal a couple of times.
Its not done the vibrating since the weekend and ive been out a couple of times since with no issues, but ill monitor and if doesn't get any worse ill book it in after Xmas for a brake service and change if needed.

thanks all, I was kind of Censored myself in case it was the TC or props that were failing but fingers crossed that doesn't appear to be the case now

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
