Most manufacturers use water based paint, since the restriction in use of VOC'sRichard

The dealer will pull air in through the teeth and ask “have you been taking your Discovery off-road, sir?”.

The paint on my 2006 D3 was much tougher than that used on my 2016 D4. So I’d not be surprised if the paint on the D5’s is even less durable. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I think LR went water based in about 1995 , as mentioned to reduce volatile emissions
Just after... my 96 300tdi had proper bird proof paint..

LR have been using water based paint, along with most other manufacturers for a long time.
Can blame the D5 for this 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Mine is like that after only driving home from the dealer.
Our country lanes do not get the attention they should from the Highways authority.
It gets even worse when you have to pass somebody in another vehicle that will not slow down

Don't think you can blame the paint for that - it looks pretty serious 'bramble rash' to me

In Australia you can get out of that by stating that "No sir, I have only been on gazetted roads". Gazetted roads being anything that is on a map. They may be dirt roads, tracks but they are roads. You have to indicate at all intersections etc, normal road rules apply.2016 D4 TDV6 Corris Grey

If I am on a narrow lane and there are lot's in Devon, I just stop at a wider part and let the other (usually smaller) car drive past.
If that is not possible I reverse back to a suitable point.

Those marks should polish right out. The panel gap around the headlight - that may take some adjusting 16 D4 Landmark

Never wash your LR. It’s called patina.
And LR owners never wash their underwear - natural sebaceous lube is best.MY91 110 CSW, so long ago I can barely remember it - sold
