The D5 seats all fold flat, it’s a pretty good load space with them all down. It’s limitation is height through the tailgate opening

That's strange, I saw an article recently that said the D5 second row did not fold as flat as the D3/4.

https://practicalmotoring.com.au/car-news/...offroader/

Interior setup – a big change, the L319 had a famously flexible second and third row with a true three-way second row split and fold-down seats. The L462 has a 40/60 split with a fold-down middle second row, and not quite as flat as before

Can you confirm that with the second and third rows folded flat the loadspace is completely flat from the back of the front seats to the tailgate?

But only in the 5 seat version.
The second row in the 7 seat version do not fold completely flat.

Doesn't look flat in this shot:

Looks to ramp up by some degrees.

Yes, they fold flat.

My electric ones folded flat, but, if they are restricted in some way from going down, they will stop, and you have to “force” a reset by holding the button down for a few seconds to get them to go down further. Caught me out a couple of times when I put them down and wondered why they weren’t flat.

Maybe the manual operated ones don’t?

Isn’t their a warning in the D5 handbook about potential damage to them if the seats are folded as flat as possible?

Sorry would disagree with that comment. The D5 seats on row two do not fold totally flat, they initially fold and stay slightly raised, by holding the bottom you can get them to compress a little more, but they are still slightly tilted and do not fold totally flat. They cannot because the seat base on the second row doesn't lower.
On MY22 and forward it is even worse as the seat base on row two sits slightly higher to overcome the issues people complained about with the base being too low for tall people. As such on MY 22 the seats when folded for row two sit at a fair angle and nowhere near completely flat.

Al my electric ones in my D5's have never gone flat, even holding the button and forcing them flatter they still do not go totally flat and cannot because the seat base does not lower, it is physically impossible for them to go lower a fact also confirmed at the factory launch back in 2016 that some of us attended.

Yes there is, something on the lines of if they are folded flat and left like that for extended periods it can mark the base units from memory.

If you want a split tailgate (of sorts), which would exclude the Defender and want 7 seats, but specifically don’t want FFRR (image and cost?) then that’s it. Seems quite a niche market for a specific model. Especially as pricing for all three models overlapping.

Hardly seems worth developing a new/facelift D6!

Do not think there will be a D6, if you talk to many LR dealers and people higher up in LR they all seem to think there will not be a Discovery replacement

Ok Russ. Mine seemed to be flat, as I had some cupboards loaded and they weren’t tilted up at the front end. Mine was a MY18. Maybe it was they were almost flat and then the weight just compressed them a touch more. Even without the load mine we’re definitely “flatter” than this shown in the picture

I think the reality is that there isn't a Defender replacement. The vehicle called "Defender" is really the Disco replacement. The Defender is as it was has been killed off in all but name.
