In the same vane I always wonder about the people running MT/R's as their main tyre, as neither variant (S or Q rating) is the correct spec for the D3.
Good for off-roading but not for general day-to-day stuff, IF you take the specs to the letter (literally).

Methley thats a fair point......however!
The difference as i see it is that the vehicle load is pretty much always the same hence why 111 is important whatever the environment!
Unless an insurer can prove you were driving above the speed rating of the tyre, then the speed rating is irrelevant, as Q = 100 mph and S = 113 mph. I can't think anyone running tyres such as MTR's that are not road biased would be that foolish to drive at speeds that exceed the speed rating TBH
Be interesting to hear other views on this I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

I have driven at 100 on MTR's (S Rated), but would I go much higher on them? Probably not. Bodsys Brake Bible

I think on this side of the water, law forbids to mount tires that are rated lower than the car demands, whether you drive this fast or not.
Probably has something to do with the safety of car thieves

That would be an interesting development, particularly for those who use AT or MTR tyres when going skiing
Can you find any more information out?
Can't believe it's never been mentioned before TBH if it is true I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Simple. Just read the handbook. Says tyres should be H or V rated.Andy

Speed rating is not an issue unless you are proven to have exceeded the defined speed at the time of any mishap....or else how could they legitimately fit a space saver spare with a very low speed rating ?? It is also not a requirement for MOT purposes.
Load index is more important. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
