Posting on a Twitter account with over half a million followers, a picture showing a well-dressed man and woman holding hands with a monkey wearing a suit. Then adding the caption: “Royal baby leaves hospital,"

That’s somehow acceptable and we shouldn’t make a fuss or be so PC, because after all we all know DB is a top geezer and isn’t a racist.

Seriously, just stop and think about it!

It could be construed as anti-monarchist or it could be construed as racist. TBH my initial interpretation was the former - the latter didn't enter my head.

Whichever, it was tasteless, stupid and he's been fired. End of. What slightly irritates me is the song and dance the BBC has made of it and the number of virtue signallers jumping on the bandwaggon. In the greater scheme of things it's NBD. Move on, nothing to see here Rolling Eyes

On another note I've long been of the opinion that anyone posting personal opinions (or anything, really) on the steaming, stinking swamp that is Twitter deserves all the grief they get. Whistle

I find his motives unfathomable. This was not his first rodeo and as a keen football fan he will know all-too-well why some fans make monkey noises and throw bananas on the pitch.

This is not the actions of some dimwitted teenage social media snowflake star - this guy has been around a long while and I suspect he knows what he is doing.

I guess if both parents were of white descent he'd have got away with it - children being referred to as "little monkeys" isn't unusual in the UK The mother being from a mixed heritage, however, the monkey jibe was always going to raise some hackles. If Baker didn't recognise that then I'd be very surprised.

Hard to disagree with this and RRSTDV8 comments. Stupid and aimed at getting a cheap laugh.

I would never think about the race subtext of a child being a monkey... How often do we call or kids or grad kids 'little monkey or cheeky monkey!

I think Danny Baker made a stupid error of judgement.. TBH he should have known better...

I do wonder, however if any bit of material that contains Archie in the title will now be seen as being racist, and will of course, be derided and subsequently banned...

It would be VERY VERY sad if that was the case... a few days ago.. none of these would have been seen as being a racist slurr... Now I fear it is only a matter of time before the books are banned and Dudley Zoo needs to change the name of its own Archie..

AND What about Dudley Zoo? Are we to accuse them of being racist?
https://www.dudleyzoo.org.uk/introducing-archie/

Archie is just a name... I'm sure the royals will rise above it and Danny Baker will make a come back in about 5 years time... and I bet a LOT more kids are named Archie in the next few years Sheep Sheep Sheep

Archie is a bogging name and we’ve a few of them up here although it’s been on the decline. Christ only knows what possesses them to saddle a kid with Archie aka Archibald. If you must, use the Gaelic for it - Eairdsidh. Rolling Eyes

Must admit I did not understand the expression "bogging name" so a quick online search come up with

Scottish, Northern Irish
informal

Filthy or disgusting.

So Archie is a filthy or disgusting name?

Don't think it's English posh either.

Before now I'd have said it was fairly 'common' Rolling with laughter
