Dark D3 Just North of Versailles |
|
Travelling East on the A13(?), in the wooded section just before the A12 Junction. Yveslines plate (78).
Must have been about 20:00 on Monday evening (27th). I was on the opposite carriageway. Couldn't see which model it was as the wheels were hidden by the crash barriers ....and the setting sun is my excuse for not being able to tell what colour it was!!! end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Not many French know about this forum... And, sadly, quite a lot of D3 are bought by non-LR enthusiasts... Georgia On My Mind...

what we need is an invasion over there
to be fair in all the miles I do over there I usually see more UK plated ones on the main holiday drags than I do French Plated ones full stop........ end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Quite true !
The D3 has had a very bad press from the very beginning because of some die-hards for whom a 4x4 can only contain electronics in its radio (Not even the CD player, heaven forbid !)... Thus not many have been bought by real 4x4 enthusiasts and given the fact that there are alternative (To the non-discriminating customer...) like the X3-X5, the Touareg or the ML... I guess that there are probably more Cayennes in France than D3...
Anyway, if you ever see a white one saluting you, it could be me... Georgia On My Mind...

EDIT : Oops... Mine is Chawton White, not Artic Frost... Georgia On My Mind...

...I am working on one in Bourgogne............the person in question has now had a very good look at mine and liked what he saw.....and i have hopefully convinced him that in reality it will certainly be no less reliable than everything else he is looking at (Volvo, Audi etc.)...plus it is an LR.
I am not sure he is convinced that it will really go everywhere his Hilux work vehicles will go (he is a farmer) end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Sorry ! Pardon my French !
At least jm-lec had me discover a forum where they talk of the D3 in a positive way... It is at least as old as this one but I never heard of it before ! Still, Disco3.co.uk will keep its place of honour for me... Georgia On My Mind...

You are right it is pretty positive Gurvan
I have to admit most of the French people I meet just see me as a mad Englishmen who buys pointless patriotic cars (something the French never do of course )
I get much more people in the UK coming up to ask about the car and wanting to look at it. Not one of my close French relatives has ever expressed even a wish to look inside it (one has been in it for a long trip and his sum up was that it was very uncomfortable........ ) However at the family skiing trip it was always my car that was taken up to the station........
I know people who work for both Renault and Peugeot and even they weren't interested in a crawl over it. (although all they ever talk about is the latest stuff coming from their own companies)
Oh well, car enthusiasm in France is limited to select few
....hence I was very surprised when a distant cousin wanted it to be their wedding car!!! end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......
