Dash console removal or loosening |
|
Did a search and ended up spending an hour reading the thread from 2007 about the guy in Cyprus I think it was who up-specced from a boggo five seat to full 7 seat leather HSE spec inclusing all the harnesses.......bloomin hell, did he ever get it finished
Anyway, never found what I was looking for........
Am installing a HK iPod kit and will be sticking the brains under the centre console and the display unit up near the speedo pack so need to feed the wires up to it.
Thought I'd read on here somewhere that getting the console out was "easy" and some reference to torx bolts so assumed I'd see some easily visable but a quick look-see didn't show any. Don't think I need it out (as routing into the rear aux socket) but want to hide the display wires for a neat fitting so really just need to be able to 'pull' it away a bit on the drivers side.
Also does the centre console cubby inner come out easily enough and will I be able to access a suitable live wire down there to wire it through the ignition to power on/off?

if you are looking to remove the centre surround around the dash radio etc, just give it a good strong tug from the bottom section, ie. where it protrudes down into the footwell on either side, then lift it off. Don't be gentle, it needs a good tug.
There is lots of space for running wires behind here. You will also easily be able to see how to remove the individual components once you have the cover off.
The section around the gear lever etc:

Thanks baben. Sorry if obvious but when giving it a "good strong tug" in which direction? If you imagine that I am sitting astride the centre console do you grab the bottom of the dash console and pull it towards you, i.e. to rear of car, or do you pull the RHS towards that door and the LHS towards that respective door?

The key word being 'PULL' a good hard 'PULL' you can do one side at a time then it pivots upwards as it hooks under the dash at the top:thumbsup: Cheers Ian
