Dead battery or first class muppetry?
It's going to be one or other and have a horrible feeling is the later!
So a few weeks back one of the kids stood on the Aux in cable and snapped the end off. After a little bit of googling worked out I could buy a replacement unit off eBay and swap it over - there are only two plugs. So this I duly did on Friday afternoon.
Friday evening when we were off out - car didn't start Now at the time I put it down to perhaps having left the ignition on when I was checking the 12v socket and Aux in worked.
All over the weekend, yesterday morning when was -5c car started fine.
OH just called to say car won't start - so a number of questions!
1. I can't believe that just replacing Aux/12v can be draining the battery??? But seems too much of a coincidence
2. Car's 6-years old and maybe just needs a new battery in any case?? With the leaving ignition on being the straw which broke it.
Any suggestions gratefully received!

How long did you leave the ignition on for? Doesn't take long to drain a battery that's not in rude health. Battery might need changed but you'd need to charge it and see what the voltage at the terminals is several hours (say overnight) after finishing charging.
My new (to me) D4 is about the same age and a new battery has transformed starting.

Or maybe not!
At advice of RAC car was left running for an hour to charge battery, OH then popped out to shops, came back to car - wouldn't start
Am now working on basis that battery has died and is just a co-incidence it died soon after me replacing socket. Fingers crossed
