Dead engine :( recon engine?? |
|
My tdv6 engine appears to have died on my 09 D3 99K miles. I am thinking it is the crankshaft.
I've found a place in Maidstone that will supply and fit a recon engine but I've been told by a friend that you can't get hold of genuine parts to recondition this engine. Something to do with oversize bearings????
The garage is a land rover specialist, QPOnline https://www.facebook.com/qponlineltd/
Has anyone got experience of them?
I don't want to write the car off but I don't want to spend thousands on a duff engine either.
Any guidance from more knowledgeable people appreciated!!!!

What were the symptoms leading up to the failure? Did it have the updated oil pump? Quite a low mileage to be crankshaft..

The guy is brilliant. He is from Ukraine, but speaks perfect English. He will do you a bloody good job, at a very reasonable price, and most certainly wont rip you off. I have used his services many times.

Symptoms were loud knocing followed by refusal to start. only thinking crankshaft because other indie suggested that was probable - i dont know enough myself.
thanks for recommendation BigElk, thats reassuring. Spoke with him on the phone and he comes across as decent and knowledgeable. Just heard horror stories about recon engines and want to make sure im using the right people...

I can understand your worries. This guy is great. He will happily talk you through everything, send you pictures of anything he finds, and pictures to prove the correct parts are being fitted etc.
He is my first port of call.

Oil starvation will very quickly cause loud knocking, possibly your oil pump gave up. This would usually mean the next event will be the last for the crank.

Good feedback on eBay:-

but their website has been hacked by a fake prize scammer.
