Dealer -v- Private?

Can anyone give any advice. I'm looking at a D3 (06 HSE) being sold privately. Everything seems genuine, but I have a niggling worry that I don't have the usual recourse that I would if it was a dealer sale.

I know that I would sill have the manufacturer's warranty but no contract with any dealer if the car turns out to be a persistent offender.

Anybody had any experience of this?

A car is manufactured from bits.

If bits break, they can be replaced; if they cannot be replaced/repaired, the final responsibility rests with the manufacturer, regardless of where you purchased the vehicle, or which dealer was the initial supplier. During the life of the manufacturers warranty, you have no issue.

How some dealers handle problems is an entirely different matter.

Ultimately...it's still under warranty. Nobody, not even a dealer, is going to bleat a sales patter that includes any historical problems with any car.

Ask some probing questions that may reveal the sellers experience of any problems. Ask for all service info and check service sheets for replacement parts. Check if it's had the enhancement too.

TBH.... if its an 06 model you should be fine. Wink

As Winger says your warranty is there wherever you buy. I no longer use my supplying dealer as they are useless and the one I go to now have been great so far.
I would try and find out as much history about the car as I could though as someone may be trying to get rid of a car that has been a bit of a nightmare, this said I would not buy a nearly new D3 from a dealer without doing the same checks as I know that someone has my old D3 warts and all!

Of course don't forget to HPI!

Would dealers still give courtesy cars etc for warranty work, even if they didn't supply?

I feel fairly comfortable with the 06 year.

I had two of the previous model, the first when it was new and it was trouble. The second, two years in never failed.

Of course.

Consider where a dealer makes most money..........and it isn't in selling cars.

If you've got a friendly dealer ask them to look the car up on their 'puter, they should be able to see it's entire history tell you if it's had any major issues
