And now fitted with tyres that actually fit. Disappointingly there is some corrosion on them that the seller failed to disclose and then blamed on me for fitting them on the wrong car Joys of eBay I guess, it's not visible on four of them so am using those on the car and will sand it off and spray the offending areas inside the rim.

Could you post up a couple of photos that show front and rear to see how much they fill the wheel arches please

From what angle? There's not much more to show to be honest, they are 255/60/18's so are the standard width and diameter. After a few days with the defender tyres I grew to dislike the soggyness they gave. I'm very happy with the step down from 19's to 18's, the extra sidewall has helped smooth out the ride and it doesn't feel any less stable. The offset is a bit lower so they sit out out a little further, perhaps that aids stability. Either way I'm very happy with the look and the way they feel and I'm extremely pleased to have got rid of the Davantis.
Edit: I do want to add a disclaimer, I'm in no way recommending anyone fits these wheels, they are tight to the calipers but I am personally happy with the clearance, do your own checks before running them. My discs and pads are nearing the end of their life so things may change when I fit new ones but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I was under the impression that defender wheels were a different offset so stick out further filling the wheel arches out more, almost like fitting wheel spacers. It looks like they do from your post I’d just like to see how much more they stick out

I'll try to get some pictures for you, looking from the top down they are completely inside the arches. The car had 30mm spacers on when I got it which I didn't like the look of, these sit a little further out than the original wheels but it's not something that's obvious unless you are familiar with the car.

New brakes fitted, no apparent clearance issues. They are still very close to the wheel but it appears the compomotives are too. It seems this is a much cheaper way of getting 18 inch wheels but do so entirely at your own risk.
