Martin, earlier this week, between the Edit and Reply options on a users post there was a X in a box that allowed you to delete a post once confirmed with a second pop up.
What's happened to it, it seemed a good idea and would mean double posts could be removed by user rather that disturbing site admin Altox GSM FBH controller thread

I think it's much better not to have it. If posts just disappear here and there it could make for a very difficult read; even if someone edits and removes their content, at least you can see there was something there. The net result could be to give the mods more tidying to do. At least a double post can be flagged and then doesn't require any judgement to be made on what action to take. By far the greater mod action IME is moving stuff around into the correct forums ...all the rest including duplicate posts is easily manageable when notified by the red triangle.
I tend to agree with LfW in that whole threads could begin to go out of context if deleted post holes started to appear....and in the extreme you could get a disgruntled \ drunken stupor'ed member deleting all or a substantial number of their posts.
I think it's best left as is 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

The forum is already shot full of holes after the dangerdave affair. Many reference threads are a right mess because of that episode.

Not really fussed if we have it or not, but an explanation on how it came to appear across sites and its subsequent disappearance would be nice Altox GSM FBH controller thread

I agree, i see the name with posts often following referencing it, leaves a lot of holes on great threads.
Only mods should be able to delete in my opinion.

Well he never offended me in the slightest. For me the only negative was all the 'content deleted' stuff when he changed his username.

Delete is reserved for mods, the permissions are set up this way, or should be anyway. The "Wtd: Parts" section had slipped through when I set the new sections up. That's where you'd have seen it
I think it is better, as discussed above, to not have delete for everyone. It's been like that for nearly 11 years 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
