Dell Mini 9
Looking at getting Dell Mini 9 for the glovebox and running through my touch screen.
Looks like it will fit. I will probably upgrade the SSD later to a 64 gig.
Anyone got one or knows anything about them?“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Phew! that was a torrent of replies.
Decided to bite the bullet and get one:

It's small.

Runs XP.

And best of all fits into the D3 upper glove box. Like a glove.

Needed to make stand to raise it the the height of the recess in the glove box door.

And some holes at either end for ventilation and the cords.

I'll see how hot it gets before I decide whether to put a fan in as well. Although it seems to run much cooler than some other subnotes.
Controled via touch screen.

Plays music from media player straight to the Head Unit via their Blue Teeth.
So far a good solution; solis state drive so no problem with off road bumps. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I bought SWIMBO a ASUS netbook last year, works with Linux which I am not very 'clued' up on, but we have had less problems with it than any of the other half dozen laptops in the moose household

Looks good. Didn't realise the upper box was that large.
Or a sub-notebook that small?
Although it is too small to have USB cors both sides so running evrything through a USB hub.

Did you upgrade the SSD drive - be interested in how well windows performs on it.
Haven't bothered upgrading the SSD yet, running my music from a USB stick in the consol in the old cubby and maps on the SD card. No problems all works well. Still $100 US for the 32 gig at the moment. When I run out of space I'll upgrade.
I recon these are the best solution for an in car PC for the D3.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

To upgrade SSD, you have two options. Either replace it with a Sata HDD with memory up to around 400GB, or get an external 2.5" USB drive with cradle. No need for extra power etc, and a very cheap solution for lotsa storage. Why is the fear of long words called hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia?

Caver....that looks really neat!!
My passenger gets rather annoyed with a laptop mounted in front of her...this could be a perfect solution.

I actually just used the CD drive on my desktop. Just allow it to be shared worked fine. Was going to get an external drive but no need really.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

The Samsung Q1 Ultra series is another alternative. I have this mounted in the car and it is pretty good, it has a 60Gb HD, runs XP, has no moving parts, a slot for a sim card so you can have proper broadband when in HSDPA coverage and its touch screen. I will get round to uploading some pictures of it running Memory Map at some point.Club Exped trailer
