Buy a Towtrust TL1 towbar which does not use the receiver like LR designed bars do but bolts through the chassis instead. I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Not to mention that a towbar makes the rear crumplezone less efficient and can create more damage to both the vehicle to which it is fitted and the one colliding with it.
& so would having a bootfull of substantial luggage/tools/whatever.
Fixed towbar is pretty useful protection from those who park other vehicles by touch !
True, but having read a report on how the forces are redistributed in a rear end crash when a towbar is fitted and how that adversely impacts on the functioning of the rear crumple zone, I was always careful to remove the detachable tow bar asap after use.
I did post the report here, but it was many years ago.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Got to confess, I now keep my removable tow hook on all the time.
The twin axle caravan has gone and all I use it for now is my Mountain bike rack and small trailer for supplies etc.
With it on I feel no one is going to park up my chuff in car parks and I can then get into my tailgate.
I’ve even got some red reflective tape around the tow ball cover as a warning.

This - completely
There's been a photo on here of a fixed LR one hanging down on the side braces exactly as described.D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

In the photograph the fractured surface that is visible has been broken a long time, look at the rust that covers it and no bright surface indicative of a recent failure.
In fact I am not too sure what has failed to cause the breakaway. The recess which holds the spring to drive the locking pin into the receiver is intact, as is all of the left taper and I think I can see the top shoulder of the right taper as well.
What is visibly missing is the area of the lock release pin, a section which should be under no load at all. To be honest I smell a rat. It is a significant likelihood that the hitch was fitted already broken to some degree and I wouldn't be surprised if the cam lock didn't work properly either.
Ironically when I open the ling at the bottom of the page is another story of a towbar failure, on a BMW. Horses are heavyA visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an MG5 EV

I think you will find that the Towtrust TL1 still uses the receiver as one of its main mounting points just the same as the LR designed bars but there is a bolt to secure the locking pin in place, or at least it did when I fitted mine
