Detachable Towbar

Why is my new detachable towbar not locking in place?

Obviously having to get everything back after a year away from discos, on the D4's and RRS ive had the ball was fine push in, ping and the handle red was hidden and the pin was all the way through the hole, key removed and all was fine.

On this one it it just wont

Pin is a little through the hole but only a few mm, red still visible and key will not remove - its rock solid in and doesn't move around, still needs the handle to release but its not locked properly and i wont be letting my trailer touch it.

I know all the stuff about the removable and pro's and con's but right now, i need to solve why it wont lock in.

I tapped the base upwards with a mallet - ive been gentle and vigorous (although i never needed to before) checked the hole for any obstructions and no swarf visible as per the TSB...surely the towball cant be defective?

any ideas greatly appreciated

I had the same problem, had to clean some of the paint off with a bit of emery off the towball where it inserts in to the chassis, then use a large persuader to get it finally home. After the fist trip away with the Tintent it was fine and no problem since.

Hi,
think Washpipe means the taper section that goes up into the receiver(4 surfaces to clean)

have you tried pushing the small pin in yourself with the bar off the car Question just take care as the big pin shots out and green handle rotates just hold hand pressure on it as you push the small pin in so you control it rotating, you can then lock it as if on the car should prove the bar ok, its the bar going into the receive that's not going just far enough

Thumbs Up

so i removed the paint, not much joy...then i though {insert explitive} it, hit the handle and it popped in! Very Happy

Thanks

Admittedly the ifor trailer looks a bit nose down, so much that when i uncliped the hitch it popped off, but maybe when the cars on it will level itself?
