A development at Warranty Direct

I've just checked with WD and found the following term added:

"To allow us to take this vehicle on cover, we first need to inspect it. There will be a cost for this pre-warranty inspection. For more information and to arrange cover, please call 0800 464 0752."

That's new Sad

Could this have something to do with it?

The trends in their cash and nett worth figures since 2012 make interesting reading.

One of their founders broke away to set up Motor Easy, who I moved over to recently. Motor Easy wanted a Β£60 inspection to remove the 90 day wear and tear exclusion, however I negotiated out of it as my car has had a 7 year service and zero-advisory MOT within the month of renewal.

Seems that WD are following suit.

Certainly look worrying figures.
As they say in financials - the trend is your friend. The trend is not friendly here.

OK

The Jaguar warranty on my XK expired by 10 days.
Despite the fact I had serviced thecae 13 days before & done less than 200 miles
I had to pay 230 pounds for the check to get the car back into warranty.
 BREXIT - done properly.

Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

I got a cheque from WD today, for my brake caliper and tailgate repair. Better bank it first thing tomorrow!

Jaguar extended warranty would not budge - get the car checked out or no warranty.
The Garage was (& still is) the main dealers in Wakefield wouldn't do the check for anything less.
The fact the car had been serviced by them didn't make any difference - you could see a point if they hadn't serviced the car, or it haven't been serviced or I had done a whole bunch of miles since the service.

At that stage I wasn't prepared to swap the extended warranty to another provider (& still aren't)....my experience with them is OK - items that have come up have been dealt with.
All bar one of the LED rear lights has been swapped out, these aren't low cost & haven't as yet found parts at breakers yards. (Yes I've looked). Some parts are appearing on E-Bay....but there are model year changes on front & rear lights + the newer lights had significantly different shapes that means newer ones simply don't fit. I really don't rate the quality or longetivity of Jag lights.

The advice from another XK owner was "keep the warranty as long as you can".....he'd had an engine warning light pop-up, the car still drove. Whatever the cause was it was a fix that cost over Β£4,000..00.
So I could have been bloody minded, not renewed the warranty & had a big bill.
What would you have done Moo ? ....you mightn't be Rolling with laughter Laughing πŸ˜‚
You won't be πŸ˜‡ Or πŸ˜‡
But will be 😀 Or 🀧

It's a "game" that extended warranty companies play....they take your fee, then the rest is Luck.
A problem occurs they decide if & how much they'll pay out. You can quibble, OK course you can....how far it gets you depends on the warrant company assessor. Around here he is said to be reasonable. Other warranty companies not the case.
A problem doesn't occur....you've payed your annual fee...they make this as profit.
"Heads I win, tails you lose"

If there's one area all makers could improve on its warranties (original into extended) Most are 3 years, some 5 or exceptionally 7 years. The longer Ines it's a selling feature.
Other countries have legislation that protects the owner / customer / buyer.
My experience of these is "they work".

Here in the UK - Legislation should protect you.
