Quick question - are French motorway service stations typically 24h? Am driving through the night to the Alps and don't really want to be stuck on the forecourt until opening time....
Cheers

I was en France 3 weeks ago and the price of supermarket diesel (Boulogne and then the Normandy/Brittany border area) was around €1.25 litre. The price per litre on the motorways and non supermarket stations varies considerably but it is of course always more expensive.
To maximise the savings on UK prices, the motor's just about running on fumes when I get off the ferry in Boulogne as it's only a mile to the nearest supermarket (L'Eclerc). I then fill up to the brim and also fill a 25 litre jerry can before getting the return ferry back to Dover.
I will be back over there for a week from 25th May so will post an update then
WELL
it was yesterday 1.32 at the local supermarket and 1.49 at a garage BUT today 1.27 at supermarket
also the exchange rate is not good pound to euro and dont forget the card charges
wine and sprit is still much cheaper
of intrest to the green lobby our local farm coperative has just killed off its six cow heards and ploughed the pasture to plant bio fuel crop
he gets a grant and good prices Doing my best on the red wine lake, as its good for the heart
