Diesel Rattle
2007 auto, when pedal down hard, should there be diesel rattle, as i drove a manual on a test drive, and it didnt seem to rattle like the auto, is it just the engine can rev more freely, or more of an engine issue??

I thought the euro 4 engines "rattled" more than Euro 3 (is is that just b0llocks), as my 09 engine (auto) sounds like its got loose tappets compared with the 06 manual I had before, and it doesnt matter what the throttle position is, or do I have a problem?

you must have a problem Al.....car sounds Ok though
Diesels can sound different dependant on fuel, engine temp, ambient temp, how awake you are, how much you drank the night before etc. so if all is OK (fluids, gauges, exhaust, how it drives and goes etc.) l would probably only worry if the noises changed.end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Just to put more fuel on the fire, all the manual TDV6s that I've heard seem to rattle more than the autos...
Obviously this comes from the clutch assembly and not the engine, but still....2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

Mine is slightly noisier after having a remap. Its now more like sand mode but not bothersome. Disappears if I use a higher cetane fuel (e.g. V power) or use diesel additive. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song
