200 quid for flushing & changing the gearbox oil !!! Is that for a manual 'box?? What's the problem that requires that...?
I think I'll go back to a Ford Pop... (4 cylinder side valve engine, a plywood floor (from the factory), three speed gearbox, suction wipers, 6 volt electrics, the headlamps were so weak they didn't throw a beam onto the ground, semaphore indicators, top speed about 50mph but you didn't dare go above 40 because of the 'handling', cable operated brakes and only two leaf springs, one per axle.. And at 40mph about 25mpg.. Maintenance was with a big hammer.)
You have to larf..
Man goes into a chemist for some deodorant..
"Ball or aerosol", says the assistant.
"Actually, it's for my armpits", says the guy.. Make the most of this life, you may not have a Landy or skis in the next one.

Yes, it seems that way doesn't it Perhaps they have to crush rather a lot of ocelots to extract enough oil for a double flush? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Been to the 'DSL advised' new dealer. Crikey, what a difference, they were INTERESTED and eager to please . The service manager even let us play with his remapped auto D3 which was a revelation!! Mummy, I want one, I WANT one.. Ace mechanic spent over half an hour trying to trace the noise, which obligingly didn't manifest as no trailer on the back and engine hot. Suspect either diff or turbo still, nothing on the testbook so I have to 'let it develop'. Seems Land Rover don't pay for any diagnostic work under warranty so it really has to be bad enough for them to be able to diagnose a fault, which is reasonable enough. He also checked wheel bearings, which apparently is quite common.
I noticed two days before we went, with a heavy trailer on, uphill, that the noise is in a narrow rev range, a little bit too much or too little throttle and it goes, but get it just right and it can be sustained.. Which seems like it'd be the turbo.. Ho hum, it'll no doubt break once the warranty expires... Make the most of this life, you may not have a Landy or skis in the next one.
