Differences between Gen1 and Gen2 motors? |
|
Hi All,
Does anyone clearly know the differences between Gen1 and Gen2 motors? Ideally the SDV8 motors?

I'm not too sure what you mean by gen 1 and gen 2, so ignore me if I'm misunderstanding. Generally speaking then, the earlier Discovery 4/LR4 vehicles had a 3.0 twin turbo V6 diesel engine and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Later ones (I think after 2011/2012) had the updated 8-speed box married to the same engine. Which makes things smoother (not that the earlier one wasn't smooth) and, in effect this had the main advantage of increasing BHP from 245 for the earlier ones to 254 for the later ones. I think there were other minor differences to the engine too, the details of which escape me at present, but it was basically the same unit.
Hope that is some help.

I think be gen 2 he means the single turbo 3.0 v6 as fitted to late d4 and early d5 models.

No, he states V8 It can when others can't,

I think in uk terminology he’s referring to the difference in our terms of euro 1 and 2 that occurred around my06 and myo7, I don’t know if the same applies to the V8 engine model.
Although he could mean the difference between the D3 and the D4 V8 engines It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
