Dipped beam, dangerous over 25 mph !!!

Hi Guys, raised this issue a week or two ago and I appear at present to be the only one with this problem. dipped beam range on my 2014 d4 was between 12 and 18 yrds maximum! Shocked The range of the light appears to get less on occasions as you approach and or brake approaching a junction/roundabout etc. Not funny in the dark with no street lights on bends etc. Impossible to see/avoid pedestrians etc. if they step out while travelling faster than 20 to 25 mph. Dealer fitted new lights and range although improved slightly is still hugely less than my 04 Freelander. I am told the blue haze at the perimeter of the beam when dipped is typicall of this years model Question Do any of you guys have the blue haze along with a dangerously low dipped beam that makes bends and junctions magically disappear from view when dipping from main beam?
Had an 06, 09, and 12 models before no issues, this one is scarey in the dark Evil or Very Mad

Without wishing to be controversial but as you have had the headlamps changed already and there is little improvement ..... have you had your eyes checked? Confused

Blue tinge at the cutoff is typical of HID's in general. Sounds like they are just set way too low to me.

Believe it or not I did have an eye test last week, coincidently Smile . I know what the lights have been like on my previous models and having done over 200,000 miles in Discovery in past few years (not all in the dark) I am pretty comfortable with what they should be....this one is a concern, back to dealer we go. It will fail an MOT with lights set that low, get your Philips screwdriver out and raise them Thumbs Up

Why not take it to an independant MOT station, and see if they will check the beams on there guage?

Thanks for replies, dealer did the test when car stationery, lights pass, car moves lights reduce range! They have even taken a video at 11pm in evening whilst driving car to send back to Landrover who cannot understand why suspension and lights are not working in tandem. A data file has also been downloaded and 'landrover technical' dept. continue to delve into the issue.

I've seen this on a D3 loan car a few years ago and it was an air suspension issue and nothing to do with the lights.

When driving it the rear end tended to raise in relation to the front. It would stay like this until finally parked where it would make an unusually large 'fart' before dropping the back end quite a way to a level position. A tape measure from hub centre to top arch confirmed that it was the rear that was over extended.

Thumbs Up

Sounds like a suspension issues to me, look on the bright side ( no pun intended) if its dropping down in the front it might make it more aerodynamic and give better MPG.

But if it is raising the back end it will make it unstable and dangerous, you need someone in another car to travel at the side of you on a motorway with a camera Thumbs Up

I'm not sure you would notice it from another vehicle. Taking a drive with a diagnostic tool recording the heights would be a good start.

Or are the bulbs not fitted correctly??? This used to happen regularly on Passats when the bulb had not gone correctly into its holder in the projectors

Sorted, I probably now have the best lights on a D4! I think after a week or so of 'changes' , suspension not quite set and after three sets of headlights and some small adjustments to recommended settings on light 'spread and distance' I have gone from 15 yrd visibility to 40m+ and side view massively improved....I am happy now.

I have the standard lights on my MY12 XS and they are useless. I should have gone for the Xenon Rolling Eyes

I tried fitting better bulbs but they just kept blowing - back to the Halogens now.
